PC MR SUN PEPPY
"Sunny" was added to our program in 1997. We were looking for a stallion that could add some speed while still keeping the cow horse in mind.
Sunny’s
performance pedigree is filled with proven horses, both top and bottom, who fit that bill.
His sire, Sun Frost, is quickly becoming one of the hottest sires, and grandsires, of barrel and arena horses today.
Bozo, by Sun Frost, has been AQHA/PRCA barrel horse of the year five times. 1996 AQHA/PRCA Steer Wrestling Horse of the Year,
Super San Wood, is by Sak Em San.
Sunny’s grandsire, Doc’s Jack Frost, has his NCHA certificate of
Ability and was a 1972 NCHA Derby Finalist. Sunny’s other
grandsire, Tuff Time Peppy, has sired futurity winners in
cutting, and a World Show qualifier in working Cow horse.
Sunny’s full brother is in cutting training in Texas and is
raising eyebrows in the cutting arena.
In 2001 we put Sunny in barrel training with Lisa Scheffer of
Hamilton, MT. She told us that he has speed to burn, but that it’s his
great athletic ability and trainable mind that are most impressive.
She pushed Sunny hard to have him ready for the 2001 Spring Futurities
and he was always willing to do what was asked. We are letting Sunny
concentrate on breeding now, but his impressive 2001 performance
record is:
Valley Girls Breeder's Sweepstakes - 5th; Washington Barrel Racing Association - 8th;
Can Chasers Classic - 1st; Wild West Futurity - 4th (1st go), 6th avg.;
Northwest Barrel Futurity (Breeders Futurity - 5th (2nd go), 7th avg., Open Futurity - 4th (1st go), 6th (2nd go), 4th avg.,
Breeders Sweepstakes - 4th, Open Sweepstakes - 7th);
Sunrise Futurity (Open - 1st (1st go), 2nd (short go), 1st Avg.)
Fizzbomb: (Barrels - 16th (short go), 13th (2nd go), 16th avg., Polebending - 4th (2nd go), 7th avg., Super Horse Award);
Equalan Barrel of Gold, Barrel Breeders Incentive - 2nd); Bold Heart Futurity:
( Open Futurity - 6th (1st go), 1st (2nd go), 3rd avg., Breeders Futurity - 3rd (1st go), 7th (2nd go), 5th avg.);
Broken Bow, Open Futurity - 1st .
As for his performance as a sire, Sunny puts tremendous muscle and a never-ending hip on all of his colts - along with that ready to please attitude. We feel that with offspring like this, PC Mr Sun Peppy colts will go on to make their mark around the country. We also believe that Sunny will produce some very powerful broodmares to put back into our breeding program.
